We are looking forward to another wonderful week at SIMS. Last week was amazing: from the fantastic lunches, to our club time guests teaching us new things, and our "Cake Pops for Kindness Club" surprising our AMAZING cafeteria staff and some of our dedicated bus drivers with cake pops to show our appreciation for all that they do for us each and every day! Also, we wanted to give a HUGE SHOUTOUT to our families and community for helping us clear our club time wish list. It's been so exciting to see the supplies come in and placing them in teacher boxes to be used on Friday mornings. We appreciate your donations! We are feeling BLESSED to be Tigers this week and always! ❤️🐅
🧪 6th graders at Starr-Iva Middle had a blast in the science lab with the "Saving Fred" activity! 🐛 Teamwork, problem-solving, and creativity were in full swing as students worked together to save Fred the worm using only paperclips—no hands allowed! 🙌 Science is not just about learning facts; it's about thinking critically and working as a team to solve problems.🔬 #6thGradeScience #HandsOnLearning #SavingFred

Mrs. Upton, our Mental Health and Wellness Coordinator, recently spoke to our middle schoolers about not staying in the "Pee Pool" or kiddie pool! 🤿🛟
As students transition to middle school, it is crucial for them not to be scared to fail by embracing "hard things." Upton reminded them that if they do fail, they should fail forward by getting back up again. We loved hearing this positive message, reinforcing their self-confidence! 💛
Our 7th grade math students have been busy connecting multiple representations of proportional relationships.
This week is going to be our first week of middle school sports starting up! We have home scrimmages on the schedule for volleyball and football on Wednesday, August 28th. This year, we want our students to participate in spirit themes for home games, so we are doing a trial run with the home scrimmages this week.
Football plays at CHS on WEDNESDAY, 8/28, at 6:00pm - it's construction night! 🏈
***EDITED***Volleyball plays at SIMS on THURSDAY, 8/29, at 5:30pm . They will have three different scrimmages. Come in your construction gear or school colors: black and gold. 🏐

What middle school student doesn't love paper airplanes? It was another great week at SIMS! One of the highlights was when 7th grade science students were able to extend their learning about and implement the steps of the scientific method through their paper airplane designs and test flights. Students had to create a testable question, measure their flight results, chart their flight data, and test their hypotheses. It was amazing!🧑🔬 Go Tigers! 🐅

Reminders:
-Doors open at 7:20am
-Breakfast and lunch are FREE for all students
-Students need to bring a book to school each day
-Cell phones must be off and in book bags
-Make sure Chromebooks are charged for school each day
-Car rider dismissal begins at 3:10pm
-Please be sure your student knows how they're getting home each day; Bus riders should know their bus name and number (Ex: Starr 3), and car riders should know who is picking them up and what car to look for.
