Yearbooks will be distributed on Monday, June 3. Students must have all lunch bills paid in order to receive a previously purchased yearbook and/or participate in the outdoor yearbook signing.

8th grader, Sydney Broadwell, hosted a paint workshop to raise money for tuition to the SC Governor's School. She was selected to participate in the Arts Odyssey Program. Jessica Wiles (right) was also selected to participate in the Theater Program at the Governor's School!

This is a reminder that state testing starts back tomorrow with all students taking SC Ready Math. Please make sure your student gets plenty of sleep and is ready to do their best.

Parents and students remember that tomorrow is the first day of state testing for Starr-Iva Middle School. All students will take SC READY reading. We want everyone to come prepared to do their best and show the progress you all have made all year long. Please make sure to get a full night of rest, take any medications needed before coming to school, eat a healthy breakfast, and be on time. Also, remember to leave smartwatches and phones at home as they cannot be in the testing rooms. We look forward to a productive day of testing.

This morning the administration at Starr-Iva Middle School received a report that a student had a gun in his book bag. Administration and law enforcement immediately investigated and determined that it was a toy gun. The district is following appropriate discipline policies and procedures at this time. Eighth-grade students were given parent surveys today from the SC Dept. of Education. We are asking that parents complete these and have them turned in no later than Friday, May 3rd. The parent survey results are a vital role in helping our school identify better ways to work with parents. The results of the parent surveys will be included anonymously in our school report card.

Crescent and Starr-Iva students participated in Solo & Ensemble on Saturday at West Oak Middle School. During the event, students formed small chamber groups and rehearsed independently. Four of the groups received a Superior rating, and five groups received an Excellent rating. Additionally, the Crescent Percussion Ensemble received a perfect score. The Spring Concert will be held at Iva First Baptist next Thursday, May 9th beginning at 6 PM. It will feature the SIMS Beginner/Concert Bands, and Crescent Percussion Ensemble, Concert Band, and Jazz Band. Several student compositions will be featured as well!

SIMS Literacy Night, A Taste of SIMS: Seasoned With Literacy, will be held on Tuesday, April 30 at 6:00 p.m. The night will feature students' work, book talks, and projects.
