Today we proudly celebrated our incredible administrative assistants and school nurse! They are the heartbeat of our school-keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes while also caring deeply for our students and staff each and every day. Their dedication, compassion, and attention to detail do not go unnoticed. We are grateful for all that they do to support our school community. Thank you for making a difference every single day!

Starr-Iva Middle's Quarter 4 Healthy Habits Assembly reminded students that what we see, hear, and participate in matters.

Negativity shapes us.
Kindness shapes us.
Our choices shape us.

💡 Reveal to heal. Don’t keep it bottled up. Talk it out. Write it out. Let it out.

A special thank you to Hannah Vernon from Joy Comes, who brought the message to life through a live painting, reminding students to let their light shine from the inside out! 🎨💡

The Cory White Diversity Award was established by the Anderson County Human Relations Council in memory of the student designer of its logo, Cory White. Cory was known for his ability and efforts to reach out to those who were alone, shy, or ignored. This annual award spotlights a student nominated by teachers and other school officials from each of Anderson County’s middle and high schools, who has positively affected peers, teachers, and/or school staff in the areas of human rights, special needs and disabilities, and/or cultural inclusion and acceptance, qualities exemplified by Cory White. Congratulations to our very own, Griffin Smith, for receiving this award tonight alongside some other remarkable Anderson County youth. We are so proud of the person Griffin is on the ball field, in the classroom, in a robotics competition, or in our cafeteria at lunch. He's a fine young man who does his best to ensure others are seen, heard, and cared for- even when no one is looking! We are also super proud of our former SIMS and current CHS student, Kylan Ware, for being a recipient of this prestigious award as well! Go Tigers!

This week, we celebrate National Assistant Principals Week, and we are incredibly grateful for ours at SIMS! 🖤💛 Our APs go above and beyond every single day to ensure our school is safe, our students are learning, and our teachers feel supported. They build strong, meaningful relationships with our staff, students, and parents, creating a foundation of trust that makes our school community stronger. From planning engaging events for our students to being present in classrooms and cheering them on at extracurricular activities, their impact reaches far beyond the school day. They show up early, stay late, and navigate the challenges that come with supporting adolescent students with patience, consistency, and care. They hold high expectations for both students and staff, while always leading with support and a commitment to doing what’s best for kids. Simply put, they make our school a better place. We love you, Mr. Lollis, Mrs.McCurley, and Mr. Moore.🐅

The Friday before break was full of fun and smiles! 🐣🌸 Our students had an amazing time at the Egg Hunt sponsored by Joy Comes—huge thanks to Hannah Vernon and her crew for making it so special! And to top it off, Mr. Travis Bryan and a furry friend made a surprise appearance at car duty to send everyone off with well wishes for spring break! What a great way to wrap things up before the break. We will see everyone back at SIMS on Monday, April 6th.

From the classroom to club time, our students are learning, thinking, and creating at Starr-Iva Middle School! 💡 In 7th grade ELA, students took their thinking to the next level by transforming surface-level questions into deeper, inquiry-based questions to guide their research: building skills that matter! ✍️📚 In 8th grade science, students raced and competed to show their understanding of weathering, erosion, and deposition: bringing learning to life through energy and excitement! 🌎🏃‍♂️ And during club time, that creativity continued with hands-on LEGO builds and teamwork! 🧱 At SIMS, our students don’t just learn—they have fun doing it!

🎶 Big news from Starr-Iva Middle School! 🎶

For the first time in over a decade, our band proudly represented SIMS at the South Carolina Band Directors Association Concert Performance Assessment—and they brought home an EXCELLENT rating along with their first plaque! 🏆

This is an incredible accomplishment and a true testament to the hard work, dedication, and commitment of our students. Their efforts have truly paid off, and we couldn’t be more proud of our band and their fearless director, Mr. Wilcox!
