With the support of the MUSC BCCW School-Based Wellness Initiative, Mrs. Lanier's students at Crescent were supplied with kale seeds to grow in their school garden. Students harvested their kale and put on their chef hats to whip up Zuppa Toscana Soup! It was a yummy way for them to learn fundamental life skills while exploring ways to use different ingredients, especially ones grown in their own gardens! ๐ฑ๐จ๐ฝโ๐ณ๐ฒ

Science ROCKS! ๐ชจ๐ฅฝ๐ฉ๐ฝโ๐ฌ.
Mrs. Lollis and Mrs. Minto's 6th Graders at Starr-Iva Middle explored rocks and minerals in their recent lab. Students tested for streak, color, and luster to place each on the Mohs Scale while also classifying them as rocks or minerals. Since eggs have a similar makeup to the layers of the earth, the young scientists used them to identify and review the layers of our planet!

Kudos to our February Forum Favorites! Thank you for being amazing teachers! ๐๐๐

Mrs. Stephanie Harbert, the Reading Coach at Iva Elementary, has been instrumental in implementing LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) at Iva through the South Carolina Department of Educationโs Science of Reading initiative.
As seen here, Mrs. Harbert is completing a Blending Drill using blending boards. In this activity, the students are given words following a pattern. Once they hear the words and โcatchโ them, they articulate them and โthrowโ them back to Mrs. Harbert. They then use letter tiles to spell the words.
Blending drills are powerful tools in reading instruction that leverage key principles from the science of reading. These activities help students develop essential skills like phonemic awareness, phonics knowledge, and fluency. ๐ค๐๐ #A3Teaches #ScieneceofReading #scienceofreadingweek

Mrs. Crystal Vaughn will officially join us as a 1st Grade Teacher at Flat Rock Elementary in July. Crystal previously served as a Paraprofessional in the district for 11 years. After falling in love with watching students grow into their potential, she returned to school to obtain a degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. This past December, she officially graduated from Anderson Univerisity and has served in 5th grade at Flat Rock for the remainder of the school year. Crystal and her husband have three daughters and reside in Starr.
Welcome back, Mrs. Vaughn! ๐

Mr. Long's students at Crescent High recently soared through their drone training and earned their drone pilot licenses! ๐โจ

Thanks to our local 28-Bypass Lowe's (Josh Hall & Mitch Ware) for a generous 80% discount, we secured plastic storage containers to organize our McKinney Vento inventory/donations, ensuring our resources are well-maintained and accessible for those in need. ๐งค๐
Also - Mr. Drennon's Construction Science students at Crescent built and installed storage shelves, adding another layer of organization and efficiency to our efforts.
Together, we're not just building storage shelves; we're constructing stronger futures for our students and families. ๐ #ThankfulThursday #TigersTogether
