☕🍂 On September 29, our kindergarten classrooms were brewing up some fun for National Coffee Day! Mrs. Hall and Mrs. Loftis transformed their rooms into cozy coffee shops where students enjoyed fall refreshers, cake pops, donuts, and chocolaty drinks. The sweetest little café crew around! 🤎✨

Happy Instructional Coach Day to our own Carly Herron! She is simply the very best, and we are so thankful she's part of our school family.

Flat Rock Elementary’s first graders had a BIG visit for Community Helpers Day! 🚧🚛

Millers Construction Company stopped by to show students how a articulated dump truck works and talk about the building process, including why every great building starts with a strong, well-prepared foundation.

Thank you to Millers Construction for taking time to visit our students and show them a little more about how things are truly #BuiltOnPurpose! 🏗️🐯

➕✏️ OGAP in Action in 1st Grade!

Our 1st grade teachers are putting their summer OGAP (Ongoing Assessment Project) training into practice! 🌟 OGAP is a research-based approach that helps teachers better understand how students think about math and use that thinking to guide instruction.

As a team, our 1st grade teachers set a goal to intentionally integrate OGAP strategies into their daily math blocks. Students have been building, creating, exploring, and making sense of math through manipulatives, bead sticks, number paths, shapes, graphs, and partitioning into halves and fourths. 🧮💡

We love seeing professional learning turn into meaningful, hands-on learning for our students! 💙

What better way to wrap up your K4 unit on apples than to create apple pie in a cup? 🍏🥧 Delicious!

On Friday, October 2, we celebrated three of the people who help keep FRES shining every single day! ✨🧹

We are so thankful for Mr. Matthew, Mrs. Elsa, and Miss Madison and all they do to keep our school clean, safe, and cared for. We’d be a mess without you! 💛

Fall is finally in the air! Kindergarten students at Flat Rock Elementary celebrated with a Fall Festival where learning was wrapped up in plenty of seasonal fun! From apple picking 🍎 to cow judging 🐄 and more, our little Tigers had the chance to learn, explore, and enjoy everything that makes fall so special.

Sometimes the best learning doesn’t feel like learning at all! 🧡🍁

Today we’re celebrating our 13 incredible teaching assistants who support our K4, K5, and Special Education classrooms each and every day! 💛

From helping little learners grow in confidence to providing an extra set of hands, eyes, ears, and heart, our teaching assistants are such an important part of the Flat Rock family.

Mrs. Fortner’s third graders put the distributive property into action! 🧮✨ Students drew number cards, built multiplication arrays with counters, and then broke those arrays into smaller, more manageable facts. By building, splitting, solving, and recording their thinking, students were able to SEE how the distributive property helps make multiplication easier! 💡➕✖️

Hands-on math = big mathematical thinking! 💙

📚🔎 Putting learning to the test in Mrs. Sears’ fifth grade! 🧪✨ From Literary Elements Bingo to becoming science detectives, these fifth graders have been learning by doing! Students put their reading knowledge to work as they reviewed literary elements through a friendly game of Bingo, then traded their books for investigation tools to observe, investigate, and identify mystery substances during a hands-on science experiment. 🕵️‍♀️🔬 Whether analyzing a story or examining the evidence, these fifth graders are sharpening their critical-thinking skills and having a little fun along the way! 💙💛

🔴🟡🔵 K5 made their mark on Dot Day! 🟢🟣🟠 Our kindergarten students celebrated International Dot Day with lots of creativity, color, and fun! 🎨✨ From one little dot can come a BIG imagination, and our K5 students certainly proved it! We love watching our youngest artists create, explore, and discover just how special their own unique mark can be. 💛

Rowan Dicce, a first grader at Flat Rock Elementary has been courageously battling Burkitt Lymphoma. After months of treatments, hospital stays, appointments, prayers, and an incredible amount of strength, his family received the news today they have been waiting and praying for:

🎉 ROWAN IS CANCER-FREE! 🎉

We are so incredibly proud of Rowan and the fight he has shown throughout this journey. Our hearts are rejoicing alongside his family, friends, teachers, and everyone who has been cheering him on.

We cannot wait to have you back at The Rock, Rowan! 🐯💪🎗️

Flat Rock is overjoyed to welcome home two of our own who have recently battled cancer: Mrs. Stacie Gibson, 4th grade teacher, and Rowan Dicce, 1st grade student. 💙💚 Both have been cleared to return to school on Monday, September 14, and we could not be more excited to have them back where they belong — with their Flat Rock family. To celebrate their return and honor the strength they have shown, we invite all students and staff to wear lime green in support of Rowan and dark blue in support of Mrs. Gibson on Monday. Let’s fill the halls with love, hope, and plenty of blue and green as we welcome them home. 💚💙
