Mrs. Stephanie Harbert, the Reading Coach at Iva Elementary, has been instrumental in implementing LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) at Iva through the South Carolina Department of Educationβs Science of Reading initiative.
As seen here, Mrs. Harbert is completing a Blending Drill using blending boards. In this activity, the students are given words following a pattern. Once they hear the words and βcatchβ them, they articulate them and βthrowβ them back to Mrs. Harbert. They then use letter tiles to spell the words.
Blending drills are powerful tools in reading instruction that leverage key principles from the science of reading. These activities help students develop essential skills like phonemic awareness, phonics knowledge, and fluency. π€ππ #A3Teaches #ScieneceofReading #scienceofreadingweek

As Spring begins to bloom, here are a few notes from our School Nurse, Mrs. McGuffin! πΈπ©π»ββοΈπ
1. Once the Bradford Pear trees put on blooms, those with allergies usually struggle. Please keep your students in mind if they struggle with sneezing, coughing, or itching of the eyes.ππ½π€§
2. Our days are getting longer and hotter. We want to keep our students hydrated; please send a water bottle daily. π§
3. We still have cool mornings and warmer afternoons. We have a lot of coats in the lost and found. Check it out if you're missing any coats. π§₯
4. Our playgrounds have mulch on them; please keep this in mind regarding shoes.π
5. Please keep the nurse up to date on all shot records.π
Don't forget to wear your pajamas tomorrow! We're getting cozy with some good books!
