grant

Anderson 3 was awarded $266,082 in grant funding to further security enhancements in the district.

The funding comes from $20 Million in Capital Funding appropriated from the South Carolina Legislature in Proviso 1.18 of the State Budget set aside for school facility upgrades with school safety priorities.

This past summer, the district added fencing and security gates at Flat Rock, Starr, Iva, and Starr-Iva to prevent access to the back of our school buildings. Relocating our Technology, Transportation, and Family Support Departments from the rear of Crescent High, Starr-Iva Middle, and Starr Elementary will stop excess traffic behind the buildings, keeping these schools secure. The award will enable the district to complete perimeter fencing at Starr-Iva Middle, Starr Elementary, and Flat Rock Elementary, further securing these buildings in areas where students are regularly present.

The awarded funds will enable the district to rekey 70 doors to "storefront" style locks. Storefront locks are designed to be more secure than traditional locks, providing a higher level of resistance to tampering, picking, and forced entry. This lock style stays locked by default, preventing them from being left unlocked. A large portion of Anderson 3's doors already have storefront locks. This grant enables us to ensure that 100% of our doors are upgraded to this new standard in security.

"This security grant empowers our district to complete any missing links in school security. Over the last several years, we have implemented robust security measures that have made our schools some of the safest in South Carolina. We continue to receive recognition from state leaders for our advanced security measures and procedures. While we will always look for additional ways to keep our buildings secure and our students and staff safe, we are proud of the safeguards we have in place." -Dr. David Nixon, Deputy Superintendent
