Mr. Adam Coats will be assuming the position of principal of Starr-Iva Middle School for the 2019-2020 school year. Mr. Coats is a native of Anderson, South Carolina. He holds an undergraduate degree from Clemson University along with a Master Degree (emphasis in Instructional Technology) from Ball State University and an Education Specialist (Ed.S) Degree from Clemson University in Educational Administration and Supervision.
He began his educational journey during college working part-time for the YMCA Afterschool Program as both a counselor and site director at multiple elementary schools before working full-time in both the private and public sector. Over the last few years he has served in an instructional support role, as a classroom teacher in the School District of Oconee County and Anderson School District Five, and most recently as an assistant principal in Anderson Five.
Mr. Coats is married to Kaileigh Coats, who is a first grade teacher at Midway Elementary in Anderson Five. They have one daughter (Ansley) together with another little girl (Charlie) due in May 2019. Together they enjoy traveling and attending any Clemson sporting event. He is excited and grateful to have the opportunity to serve Starr-Iva community as principal of Starr-Iva Middle School and looks forward to the great experiences ahead!
