As of July 31, 2020, the South Carolina Department of Education mandated: "Students and staff in South Carolina public schools must wear a face-covering upon entering a school building, moving through hallways, during carpool/bus drop off or pick up, and when social distancing is not possible or optimal. Student face coverings may be removed upon teacher or administrator direction while in the classroom or during special activities outside the classroom." This mandate follows our mask policy stated by Mrs. Hipp in the superintendent update last week. As we wrap up eLearning, your child’s teacher has started entering final grades for Quarter 4 and Yearly Average. We wanted to clarify what you will see when you view your child’s grades in PowerSchool. Teachers will put in the letter P (Pass) or F (Fail) for Quarter 4. You will also see a numeric grade. These numbers (P=60 and F= 0) are set in PowerSchool by the State Department. Please disregard the numeric grade in Q4. It will NOT affect your child’s final yearly average. The numeric grade is NOT a reflection of your child’s eLearning. The PASS or FAIL (indicated by the P or F) is the assessment of your child’s work for the 4th nine weeks. His/her yearly average is based on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd nine weeks’ grades. The yearly average will have a P and the correct number grade. All classroom awards are based off of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd nine weeks grades. This includes honor roll awards. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. First grade joined with fifth grade to make slime on Halloween! Each fifth grader helped their first grade buddy to measure out the ingredients to make slime. After making slime, each student had to problem solve and figure out how to blow a bubble with their slime. Fifth and first grade had a blast!

This is a reminder that DHEC will be in our district on November 14 and 15 to administer flu shots to our students. Parents must complete either a paper or online consent form for their child to participate. The online link is available until October 31. If you signed your child up to get a flu shot and there has been a change in his or her health, or if he or she has already received the flu vaccine, please call DHEC Regional office at (864) 596-2227 Ext. 246. Thank you for all that you do at home to keep our students healthy and ready to learn.
Don't forget about the Tiger Trot tomorrow (Saturday October 12). The 5K starts at 8:00 am with the 1 mile color run starting at 9:00. If you plan to arrive after 8:00 you will need to take Good Hope Road to Pollard Road and approach Parker Bowie from the lower end.

SES 5th Grade Parents: A form will come home today to register your "Rising 6th Grader" for SIMS. It is important to fill these out and return by Tuesday, April 2. We will take our students on a tour of the middle school in May. Those permission slips will also come home today.

Anderson School District Three is holding a fundraiser for the March of Dimes. A3 Fine Arts Showcase. Students from every school will be participating in this event!
Our 3rd graders have been studying electricity and all the different ways to make it work. We have had fun using the kits to create light energy and sound energy, among others. Students also had a blast seeing all the ways static electricity, using balloons and combs, can have an effect on salt, sugar, and tissue paper.
Good Hope Presbyterian Church recently donated $533.00 to the Weekend Snackpack Program. This donation was matched by an anonymous donor and will benefit the students of Flat Rock and Iva Elementary! Starr Baptist Church also supplies approximately 20 snackpacks each week to the students of Starr Elementary. Anderson Three is blessed and truly thankful for the love and support of our schools from the Starr and Iva communities.
Third graders are researching problems within the environment caused by human activities or a natural disaster. They will create a working solution to solve the real world problem they discover.

November Employee of the Month Congratulations to Lone Keasler. She was named our November Employee of the Month. She is an amazing leader and role model for our students. WYFF has incorrectly stated that all Anderson County districts are closed tomorrow. At this time, all Anderson County districts are open except Anderson 5. The other districts, including Anderson 3, plan to be on regular schedule tomorrow. The superintendents continue to monitor weather conditions and will have a conference call Thursday morning at 5 a.m. Any changes based on weather conditions will be announced after that call.
