Mrs. Christy Horton Dodd

After 24 years working with middle school aged children, I made a decision to go to work in an elementary school, and I LOVE IT!  During my twenty-four year career, I have taught English language arts, English I, math, science, and social studies.  The first nine years of my career were spent at Elbert County Middle School in Elberton, Georgia, and my last fifteen years have been spent at Starr Iva Middle School in Starr, South Carolina.  This is my first year at Flat Rock Elementary as the Instructional Coach.

A native of Franklin Springs, Georgia, I graduated from Franklin County High School in Carnesville, Georgia in 1997.  I attended Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, Georgia and earned an Associate of Arts degree in General Education.  After transferring to Brenau Women's College in Gainesville, Georgia, I graduated in 1991 with a BSEd.  in Early Childhood Education.  I returned to Brenau in 2002 and obtained a M.Ed. in middle grades education with an emphasis in English and social studies.  In 2013, I earned a masters degree in Administration and Supervision from Anderson University in Anderson, South Carolina.

I have been married to my high school sweetheart, Chuck Dodd, for sixteen years.  We reside in Hartwell, Georgia with our two sons:  Miles, an 11 year old sixth grader at Starr Iva Middle School and Will, an 8 year old third grader at Flat Rock Elementary.  Both boys keep us busy playing football, basketball, and baseball.  In any spare time I have, I enjoy playing the piano, crocheting, reading, and practicing my photography skills.
